A church made of sand?

24 January, 2012 路 Posted by Rachael Goldsworthy

You can see the artist in the photograph below is in the process of finalising the base of this entry for the International Sandsculpting Competition. Aren’t the sand sculptors clever!

If you haven’t already do so, take the time out to drop by and see them on The Terrace, Windsor…rain, hail or shine, they are there 馃檪

Enjoy.

Some things just keep getting better with age…

18 January, 2012 路 Posted by Rachael Goldsworthy

Betty White is celebrating her 90th birthday today. When I was growing up watching the television sitcom聽“The Golden Girls” was my first introduction to her acting skills…I still have a chuckle watching that show if there is a re-run on t.v.聽 White was just 63 when she landed the role that really made her a household name:聽Rose on Golden Girls. And she just seems to get better with age.

The same is true for some homes, especially Heritage Homes.聽 In the Hawkesbury, we are very lucky to have a considerable number of heritage homes dating from as late as 1800s to the early 1900s which formed part of original farms and dairys etc.聽

These homes not only have street appeal but their聽gardens have had the time to develop and mature to a beautiful collection of plants over the years.

This street appeal and established gardens are always a winner with buyers as they can move straight in.聽 Equally, sellers聽enjoy a premium price from the combination of those two items alone.

Happy Birthday Betty from everyone in the Hawkesbury!

Never, Never, Never Give Up…

17 January, 2012 路 Posted by Rachael Goldsworthy

Sometimes when we are looking for that perfect home we can become despondent with the process.聽聽You know how the story goes…you have looked at 10 homes each week for the last month and nothing seems to suit.

The house always looks fantastic in the photographs, is the right price, but when you get there it is under power lines…the list goes on.聽 I am sure you聽may have聽experienced this聽or perhaps seen friends or family go through this process.聽

When searching for that perfect home, if there is one聽piece of advice聽that I would offer聽you and that is a saying my father has shared and I love,…”Never, never, never give up”.

Often we come so, so聽close to our goal of home ownership, personal, professional or financial, or whatever you may be聽striving for in your life, but we simply聽just give up.

Sometimes things won’t always work out the way you want, but don’t give up, stay determined and maintain that laser聽beam focus on what it is you want to achieve.

When you don’t give up, you cannot fail.

Enjoy the video.

Would you be tempted to inspect these homes?

16 January, 2012 路 Posted by Rachael Goldsworthy

Cute home in the historic centre…would you be tempted to inspect these homes with Ellen?

A small percentage of real estate agents have been known for sensationalised advertising…I mean artistic licence, when it comes to what they say about a home for sale.

When looking for that perfect home, I always find it helpful to ensure that the agent you are working with sends you as much information about the property prior to your inspection. This will help you two-fold. Once you have seen more photographs, a floor plan of the home and hopefully a copy of the contract for sale, you will get a much better idea of what is actually on offer and whether you would like to take it to the next step of the buying process… an inspection of the home.

This saves you a lot of time inspecting homes that may have sounded perfect in the advertising but just don’t cut the mustard on your list of “won’t compromise” for your perfect home.

Need any help working out what to look for in your perfect home? I have a property evaluation sheet I am happy to share with you. This helps identify what you truly want in a home in a simple one page format.

Happy house hunting.

Aerial Shot of The Peninsula by the Hawkesbury River

16 January, 2012 路 Posted by Rachael Goldsworthy

The Peninsula, Windsor (part of the original Hannabus Dairy)

I was kindly emailed a copy of this photograph by Marilyn & Dudley Mercer who live in Windsor and I couldn’t resist sharing with you.

So the legend goes…

The orange orchard that you see in the lower right hand corner sadly is no longer there. However in its place is a beautiful two storey home which is known as No. 23 George Street, Windsor (next door to Government Park).

The drive way leading from George St, at the side of the orchard, leads to No. 25 which was the site of the original milking shed. Closeby you can also see the big barn which was also part of Hannabus’ Dairy, as was the orchard together with house numbers 25, 27 and 29.

The dark brick home next to No. 25 was built by old Albert Hannabus for his son. This has a brick front fence in this picture which may help you navigate to the home more easily.

No. 27, the original dairy house, was built in 1865. The roof has been replaced since this photo was taken – it looks red or rusty in this photograph.

No. 29 was a drive way from the street to the barn when produce was sold and delivered. The house there now is more modern.

And finally, the last home you can see is owned by a very famous and talented local artist.

Thank you again Marilyn & Dudley for the photograph and your local knowledge, much appreciated. It is great to be able to share this information.

Here ends your local history lesson for today 馃檪

If you have any local history stories that you would like to contribute, I would love to share them with my readers. Please contact me rachael@rachaelgoldsworthy.com.au.

Happy history hunting.
