World Pride comes to SYDNEY!

24 February, 2023 · Posted by Gemma Healey

Whether you are looking at attending yourself or in support of a friend, family member or local community, watching the Mardi Gras Parade or streaming live no matter what side of the fence you sit can be a lot of fun.  A couple of things you need to know about World Pride.

When Is the World Pride Festival?

The world pride festival is one of the most colourful and creative festivals to come to Sydney, and takes places between Friday 17th February – Sunday 5th March 2023 with the 45th Mardi Gras Parade set to take place Saturday 25th February between 6:00pm – 11:00pm.

Rachael’s Top Tips for Best Vantage Point

1/ Like in real estate Location, Location, Location is key! So plan to arrive early to get the best vantage spot.
2/ When buying a home you want to know the local amenities and facilities available, so ensure you know your go to places to purchase food and water, and toilet stops for the night.
3/Spending long days searching for that perfect home, nobody wants to get “Hangry” in the process, so ensure you carry water and snacks just in case you cannot find a vendor in time, your friends will love you for it.
4/ Similar to our open homes where we want to ensure the safety of our attendees, therefore keep an eye on your friends and belongings and stay together to have a safe and enjoyable night out. Carry only the essentials and avoid bulky items.
5/ Like wandering the streets for hours for the perfect home, it is a must to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, dress for the Mardi Gras Event and weather forecast.

A couple of other things you need to know about Mardi Gras…

What is World Pride/Mardi Gras?

And whether you are up for a party or not The City of Sydney certainly knows how to host one of the best parties of the year! Bursting into life with a full calendar of special and annual signature events that celebrate all things rainbow attracting approximately 20,000 local, interstate and international visitors, providing them with an experience that cultivates a sense of culture and community which equally commemorates the vibrant history of Mardi Gras since inception by the 78ers.

What to wear to World Pride 2023

The great thing about Mardi Gras as you can dress in whatever you like, but most importantly, simply be yourself.

Is the Mardi Gras Parde on TV?

Yes, the parade will be live streamed on ABC iview from 6.30pm (AEDT), ABC TV from 7.30pm and it will also be on ABC Local Radio Evenings from 7 – 10pm

You can also live stream the parade via @SydneyMardiGras Youtube Channel

Whatever you find yourself doing this weekend, Happy World Pride 2023

#LIVELOVEAUSTRALIA Day in the Hawkesbury 2023

20 January, 2023 · Posted by Gemma Healey

Australia Day is known to celebrate the anniversary of Governor Arthur Phillip  raising the Union Jack Flag on Australian soil on 26th January, 1788.  Looking for the best places to visit on Australia Day in the Hawkesbury to celebrate together?  Only about 1 hour away from Sydney you can discover the Hawkesbury which is a great place to visit for so many reasons.

A considerable amount of people take this special day for the opportunity to reflect and spend time with friends and families at social gatherings, exploring and adventuring.  If you are stuck on ideas for Australia Day, I have compiled a short list of popular #livelovelocal activities that locals and tourists love to visit in the Hawkesbury.

because of the sun-drenched landscapes, rivers, bike tracks, cafes, swimming holes and creeks.

  1. Gather the Family and attend Australia Day in Govenor Phillip Park, Windsor between 5:00pm – 9:00pm with MC Farmer Dave, Live Entertainment, Food Trucks, Fireworks displays and so much more. For more information visit, Australia Day on the Hawkesbury | Resources (nsw.gov.au)
  2. Have a BBQ with friends and family.
  3. Take the family to visit a local park such as Howe and Government Parks, Windsor – BBQ facilities – there are also bike riding/walking paths and play equipment
  4. The Perfect Escape – The Award Winning Love Cabins where there is such a choice of accommodation including Wollemi Wilderness Treehouse, Enchanted Cave, Love Cabin, Love Studio, Love Tee Pee, Wollemi House, The Sebel Hawkesbury Resort and Spa and Riverside Oaks Golf Resort.
  5. Bring back the romantic picnic for two – Take a picnic to the picturesque Yarramundi Reserve, Colo River, Hawkesbury River
  6. Enjoy a swim at the Richmond Pool, Richmond or indoors at Hawkesbury Oasis – South Windsor
  7. Off Leash Dog Park – Spoil your pooch and take them to socialise with other pampered pets – Ham and Cox Streets, South Windsor –  doggy bags and bins provided with fenced area, Peel Park, Arthur Phillip Drive – doggy bags and bins provided with fenced area, North Richmond, Yarramundi Reserve, Springwood Road, Agnes Banks – this area is not fenced.
  8. Feeling peckish? Enjoy a brunch at one of the local Cafe’s – Bridge Cafe, Simon’s Cafe, Cafe Red
  9. How about coffee?  Gloria Jeans, George Street, Windsor; Lime and Coconut Cafe, Windsor
  10. Art Buff or Enthusiast?  How about Visiting some great gallleries and studios showcasing photography, best painters and sculptors in our region – try Hawkesbury Regional Museum Windsor, Cobham Hall Museum, Wiseman Ferry Hotel, Kurrajong Radio Museum, Kurrajong Hills Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Windsor (this is also in the same building as the library which is handy),
  11. Journey Back in time to Australia’s history with Australiana Pioneer Village, Wilberforce
  12. Trampolining? Try Planet X Indoor Trampoline Park, Richmond
  13. Visit a Church? St. Matthews Catholic Church (c.1840) Windsor, St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Richmond, Hawkesbury Church – Windsor, Vineyard Church – Vineyard, Uniting Church Ebenezer (1809) – Ebenezer, Uniting Church – Wilberforce, St. James (c.1857) Pitt Town, St. Johns (1859) Wilberforce, St. Marks (1936) Freemans Reach, St. Albans, St. Albans, South Windsor Baptist Church, Sth Windsor,
  14. Ghost Tour? Windsor Ghost Tours get into the spirit of things.
  15. Water skiing and fishing – Hawkesbury River is ideal
  16. Kayaking – Hawkesbury River, Colo and Nepean Rivers and local estuaries
  17. Bike trail – Feeling energetic, try the ride from Windsor to Bella Vista and there are stops along the way including the cafe’s mentioned above.  Now I’m not advocating fast food (although I do love a cheeseburger, chips and coke every now and then 🙂 ) however if you feel like balancing the good with the not so good there are also fast food chains like McDonalds, KFC…after you deserve a little reward.
  18. Catch up with friends for a beverage in a local pubs like Macquarie Arms Hotel, Bird in the Hand Inn, Wisemans Inn Hotel, The Heritage Hotel, Clarendon Tavern, Fitzroy Hotel, The Richmond Inn, The Royal Hotel Richmond, RG McGees.
  19. Catch an afternoon nap? How long has it been since you took 1/2 hr out of your busy day to simply sit under a tree or on a grassy patch of ground to reconnect, gather your thoughts or catch up on some power Zzzs.
  20. Decorate your home or office or puppy dog to get into the fun of the Australian Them.
