This week, we commemorate the spirit of the ANZACs and say Thank You to those who have served and are still serving on behalf of their countries.
And we also acknowledge and say Thanks to all of the animals who served us, many of which who also lost their lives in service to their country including Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick or better known as ‘Simpson and his Donkey’.
Simpson used donkeys “to transport wounded men from the fighting in Monash Valley down to the dressing (first-aid) station at Anzac Cove and was considered one of the first stretcher-bearer on Gallipoli to use a donkey to transport wounded men.”
